About LUM
LUM means Earth in Mayan, and it's not lightly that Sebastián Gandine took that name as his handle. LUM is an Argentinian-born, Mexico-based DJ, producer and multidisciplinary artist whose work fuses ancestral music with contemporary electronic production.
After a near-death experience in his late teens, he turned toward music as a spiritual practice, spending years with indigenous communities studying the social functions of music. After learning instruments, recording rituals from rites of passage to burials, and integrating these findings into digital formats, his performances are conceived as ceremonies: journeys designed to reconnect mind, body, and earth with plants, percussion, and voice become elements.
Residing deep in the Tulum jungle, LUM has been a key figure in shaping the region’s downtempo and “shamanic house” movement. Since 2014 his Thursday night live show at Nomade Hotel has remained one of the longest-running rituals in Tulum. He became the first resident DJ at Scorpios Mykonos in 2015, launched its Sunset Live Concert series, and was the first resident of Woomoon Ibiza in 2016. He has performed at Day Zero Festival (opening the main stage four times including 2025), Get Lost in Miami, Buenos Aires and Mexico City, the inaugural Saga events by Bedouin, Hï Ibiza, Pacha, and at the United Nations in New York for an Amazon Rainforest Foundation event.
His releases on Crosstown Rebels, Kompakt, Sol Selectas, True Colors and other labels were remixed by artists such as Luciano and Bedouin. They extend his ritualistic ethos into recorded form. Nike selected his track “Pà” for its global NTC Community Workout Mix in 2021.
Guided by meditation and a deliberate withdrawal from ego-driven stages, LUM favors small gatherings and outdoor settings over mass club crowds, prioritizing authenticity over reach: he really wants to build his spirituality. Having played in 29 countries and 63 cities, he continues to expand his discography while staying rooted in the jungle and in his vision of music as medicine.
